PresidenMichaelt: Michael Cabrera

Michael Cabrera graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno in December 2009 having attained a degree in Political Science and International Affairs with an emphasis in Diplomacy, Law, and Organization, with a minor in Music.

Michael first got involved with the UNR Young Democrats in spring 2006. He has worked and volunteered for many campaigns, most recently as an organizer for Rory Reid’s 2010 bid for Nevada Governor.  Michael was the founder of Northern Nevada Students for Barack Obama in mid-2007 and an intern for Assemblywoman Sheila Leslie (D-Reno) during the 2009 Session of the Nevada Legislature.

On campus, Michael served a year in the Associated Students of the University of Nevada (ASUN) Senate and another year as the ASUN Vice President.  He was also the President of the Nevada Alpha chapter of the Phi Delta Theta Fraternity, and served as a Student Ambassador and member of Student Orientation Staff.  Michael loves to travel, read, and be involved in the political process.

Adrian

Vice President: Adrian Viesca

Adrian recently graduated from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas with a Bachelor’s degree in Political Science. During his time at UNLV, he was very active in Consolidated Students of the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (CSUN) Student Government and served as a Senator from the College of Liberal Arts. He also was active in the UNLV Young Democrats and the Student Organization of Latinos.

Adrian has worked and volunteered on numerous political campaigns.  Adrian was elected Executive Vice President in March of 2010.When he is not helping Democrats he is an avid jogger.

Northern Nevada Director: Mandie Drummond

Mandie is a recent graduate from the University of Nevada, Reno (2010). She now holds a bachelors in History with a minor in Museum Studies. Though she did not study politics and does not plan on working in politics in the future, she is still very passionate about it and plans on staying involved as much as possible.

She first considered herself to be a Democrat when she was 6 years old while watching Bill Clinton become the President Elect with her Grandparents. She was very excited when she turned 18 (2004) and was able to vote in her first Presidential election. However, she didn’t become very active in the party until college when she went to the Democratic Caucus in 2008 and was elected her precinct’s delegate for President Barack Obama. After that she became a Washoe County delegate for President Obama at the Nevada State Convention.

When she graduated TMCC and arrived at the University of Nevada, she immediately joined the school’s Young Democrats chapter. Since joining she has been very active in the club. During her second semester as a Young Dem, she was elected the Vice President. She is very excited to be the Northern Nevada Vice President for the Nevada Young Democrats, 2010-2012.

Southern Nevada Director: Ryan Cotter

Ryan Cotter has been involved as a volunteer in his Las Vegas community since a very young age. As he grew, he realized that the best way to make a difference and inspire others to do the same lies within the political realm. He became active in the national We The People organization and the National Youth Rights Association during high school, and , now 18, he is a junior at UNLV dual majoring in psychology and political science and a Young Democrat. Ryan has interned with the Nevada State Democratic Party and currently interns with the Rory Reid Campaign. Above all, he hopes to help youths who share his passion for positive change find ways to become successful and active in their communities.

He also works with the Red Rock Canyon Interpretive Association and loves the natural environment of southern Nevada. In his free time, Ryan likes to enjoy a cup (or ten) of tea and a good conversation.

National Committeeman: Leo Murrieta

National Committeewoman: Heather Brown

In h igh school, Heather’s passion for politics started with a government teacher who challenged her get involved to make a diff erence in her com muni ty. When she attended the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, Hea ther quickly joined the College Democrats chapter and worked to help develop and build a strong presence on her campus.

During the 2004 election, she became very involved with both Young Democrats of America and College Democrats of America an d has been a strong voice for Nevada on the national scene ever since. Heather served as the national Membership Director for College Democrats of America (2008-2009), and as the Membership Director, she created a national membership database, which helped organize College Democrats across the country.

Heather works with both College Democrats and Young Professionals in Nevada to get them engaged and active in political issues and campaigns that affect young people most.

Heather was recently appointed Chief of Staff for Young Democrats of America, which will keep her very busy for the next two years. Her in volvement on the local, state and national level has allowed Heather to share her knowledge, passion and drive for helping Young voters own a piece of the political process.

In her spare time, Heather likes to travel, visit museums, participate in lively political discussions, download apps for her iPhone, listen to music (iTunes Genius is just that), and surround herself with positive and progressive people.

Secretary/ Treasurer: Kim Rios

Kim is currently a junior at the University of Nevada, Reno, and is pursuing a major in International Affairs with a minor in Political Science and a certificate in Spanish Translation. She has been heavily involved on campus since day one with active positions in Student Ambassadors, where she currently holds a Co-Chair position for Public Relations, the UNR Young Dems, the Environmental Action Team where she also holds a Co-Chair position for the Events Committee, and an internship with Organizing for America.

Kim has volunteered in numerous political campaigns, but the one that motivated her the most in pursuing a career in politics was Barack Obama’s 2008 presidential campaign. She was deeply enthralled by the entire experience.

In her spare time, Kim enjoys spending time with her family and friends. She is an avid traveler, spending Spring Break in Prague.  She will be studying abroad in Italy this coming fall for a semester.
